Well known Melbourne art curator John Buckley worked closely with the hotel's interior designer, Sue Carr of Carr Design, to select an array of paintings, photography and prints to complement the hotel's contemporary and European design and help guests immediately gain an impression of quintessential Melbourne. Some of the artworks were also especially commissioned for the hotel's opening, including two giant canvases from Chinese Australian artist John Young, a four panelled work by Andrew Browne and giant chandelier sculptures by Carlier Makigawa. The collection also showcases internationally acclaimed photographer Bill Henson, works by contemporary painter Imants Tillers and limited edition prints from esteemed Australian photographic artists Christopher Koller, David Stephenson and Susan Hewitt throughout the hotel's guest room corridors. Limited edition lithographs and prints have also been selected for the guest rooms. Self guided tours of the hotel's contemporary art collection are available along with personalised tours with hotel staff as part of The Westin Melbourne Hotel's Unwind Ritual. |
